EULA
Enactment Date: July 3, 2025
This agreement (End-User License Agreement) is a legal understanding between you (“User”) and the StarLogo Nova Project Team / MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program (“Licensor,” “we”) for the use of the StarLogo Nova software platform (“Software”). Please read through it carefully. If you are a minor and have trouble understanding these terms and conditions, please ask your parent and/or legal guardian for clarification. If you are an adult, please contact us at slnova-account@mit.edu with any questions.
By accessing or using StarLogo Nova, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement.
License, Ownership, and Restrictions
The Licensor grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use StarLogo Nova for non-commercial purposes (with commercial exceptions below) only. This means that you may not:
- Give copies of our software to other individuals, or redistribute it in any way
- Make commercial use of any of our services (with exceptions below)
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the Software
- Remove or alter any copyright or attribution notices
Additionally, you may not use the Software to create or distribute content that we deem harmful, offensive, or unlawful.
Commercial Use Exceptions
The Licensor grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license for the following commercial uses of StarLogo Nova, if you provide clear attribution to, and disclaim any association with, the Licensor:
- Creation of educational / training materials designed to help people learn how to use StarLogo Nova
- Provision of training and/or assistance to people in the use of StarLogo Nova (e.g. at workshops, summer camps, etc.)
For any other uses, you must obtain a separate license by contacting step-info@mit.edu.
The Software is owned by the Licensor and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a license to use this software, not ownership of it.
User Content
You retain ownership of any projects or content you create using StarLogo Nova. However, by using the platform, you grant Licensor a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use your content for research, educational, and promotional purposes, unless you opt out by contacting us at slnova-accounts@mit.edu. Additionally, for any content you make public, you grant all users of StarLogo Nova a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use your content for personal and/or non-commercial purposes only.
Privacy
Use of the Software is subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect personal data.
Termination
Licensor may suspend or terminate your access to the Software at any time if you violate this Agreement. Upon termination, you must stop using the Software.
Disclaimer of Warranty
The Software is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Licensor does not guarantee that the Software will be error-free or uninterrupted.
Maintenance and Future Availability
StarLogo Nova is funded by research grants and donations through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Scheller Teacher Education Program (STEP). If funding is discontinued, StarLogo Nova may need to cease operations. If you would like to help ensure that StarLogo Nova is updated and available in the future, please contact step-info@mit.edu about partnership options.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Licensor is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use or non-use of the Software, or any failures, limitations, or shortcomings of the Software.
Governing Law
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
